My wrasse has a couple of good cuts on him. Is stress coat a good idea?? Is there another additive I can use to heal wounds?? Please help. I don't want the cut to get infected.

I personally would not do anything, but keep the water pristine, and chaulk the food full of vitamins. Stress coat will not do anything for an injury. I would get a qt going just incase it does get infected...if it does put it in the qt and treat with Maracyn II. JMHO

What vitamins do you recomend? Why can't I add the maracyn to the main tank? How will I know when it is infected??

For vitamins...Selcon, Zoecon, or Boyds Vitachem. Maracyn II will kill all bacteria good and bad...if you do this in your display you are likely to nuke your tank....as far as infection goes...look for redness...swelling...white funk...kinda like looking out for one on us
. Overall I would probably pay more attention to how this fish is acting...if it looks terribly stressed or stops eating, I would QT it.

Mine are the same way...they have to be the easiest fish to catch.

Just my opinion, I would not suggest milafix. I think you are more likely to stress the fish and create problems than you are to aid in healing with that product. Saying that, I have never personally used milafix, but then again I never would. Don't push anything until you have a problem...fish in the ocean heal up...give it time. Then again, if you feel your fish is in grave danger and you don't have time to set up a QT...

Stress Coat
* Instantly removes chlorine and neutralizes heavy metals
* Helps replace the natural slime coating fish need in times of stress
* Contains Aloe Vera, nature's liquid bandage, to prevent loss of essential electrolytes and speed tissue growth
* Safe for both marine and freshwater aquariums
This is the claim. IMO there couldn't be enough pure aloe vera in that solution to aid with anything, and if there is...it's not just going to centralize itself to the wound...is this good for a fish?...but if you put a drop of anything in a bottle you can list all the benefits. Others on here have brought up the point of "stickying" up the fishes gills with this product. This made sense to me, so I have not used it since. My opinion...marginal water conditioner on its best day...it is not going to heal your fish. If you are looking for a water conditioner use seachems Prime. JMHO

Stress coat will make your skimmer foam like crazy. It does not benefit the fish enough to bother with and too much of it can clog their gills. I wouldn't add it to the display. The fish can heal himself. Add vitamins to the food and keep the parameters pristine.

I used it in my reef and I had to shut my skimmer down for two weeks. I usually use RO/DI, but I had to top off with some tap water. I added the stress coat to get rid of the chlorine. It was only a small amount and I could not turn my skimmer down low enough to keep it from overflowing in 10 minutes.

forgot to add that it did not have a negative effect on any fish or corals. but I only had a cap full in 80 gallons of water.
