stress medicine?

i was just wondering if you guys put some type of stress medicine in the tank before adding fish. if so, what kind?
if not, why not?
i have STRESS ZYME, and when i had my freshwater tank, I used to add a little in the tank to put the natural SLIME on fish and to help them not stress out. so just wondering if Im pose to do the same with sw fish.

I wouldn't put it on any fish....fresh or saltwater. Nature gave them a natural slime coat, and we all know it's not wise to mess with nature!:scared:

no but if u had freshwater fish, u would know everyone recommends that cuz it adds a natural slime. i just dont know about sw fish.. do u guys do that?

Fresh water fish don't need it, nor do saltwater. It is another gimmick sales item that is recommended by anyone who sells the stuff. IMO, it doesn't prevent, cause or detur anything beneficial or harmful. As already indicated, fish have their own natural slime coat. And besides... Stress Zyme's claim is not to add the slime coat, but rather to aid in controlling "harmful organic compounds, ammonia and nitrite". 100 Million live bacteria per teaspoon!!!! Just throw it out.
I think what you are actually refering to when you mention a fish's slime coat is called Stress Coat. It has the added benefits of neutralizing chlorine and other heavy metals (so it claims). But if you are using RO water that is also not necessary. If you are adding tap water, you need to neutralize the chlorine. Which product you chose is up to you.
And as for your 2nd question. Do we add it and why or why not.
No, I don't add it. I don't add any chemicals to my tank. Call it anal, but I would rather do my maintainence the old fashion way. Find and eliminate the actual cause of a problem.

what i got is stress coat, not stress zyme.. i used to add it b4 addin my FW fish, but i have RODI water so i wont add it to my SW fish.
thats my droolin tongue hangin turtle.. haha... :hilarious

I wouldn't recommend it... And I called my LFS and they wouldn't recommend it either...

Don't add it, all it really does is give your skimmer a major workout for days, and you a headache. Been there, its not needed.
