Hi to everyone!
Been reading through old posts for about 1 hour now. . . .
I have a fairly new tank that cycled and now has amonia 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates have been as high as 10-15 (I have done two 10-20% water changes).
The tank was cycled with 20 lbs of LS, 22 lbs of LR, and (2) yellow tailed damsels.
At the end of the cycle, the damsels were returned to the LFS and replaced with a pair of clown fish. The clowns were added by the bag placed in the tank water for 20 minutes, then I added 1/2 cup tank water to the bag every 15 minutes for 1 hour. At an hour and 15 minutes (1 hr, 35 min total) I placed the fish in the tank.
For three days, the clowns did fine. I have tested the water everyday with the same results as above. Day three starts an algae bloom, so I had the LFS test for phosphates and double check my nitrate and amonia tests. 0 phosphates, 0 amonia, < 10 Nitrates. They also double check the SG and it was 1.022. I go ahead and do a 20% water change and vacuum the algae off the sand.
I guess it was too early to work on the tank with the new fish, because one of them is now very stressed. stays in the bottom corner and barely swims; sometimes no swimming at all (acts like he is trying to swim, but just can't). The second clown spends a lot of time near him like he is trying to get him to swim with him (for the previous three days, they have stayed within inches of each other swimming throughout the tank). But the rest of the time the second one swims around like normal.
The LFS suggested I add stress coat to the water, so I did. Is there anything else I can do to try to save this little guy? From other posts, it sounds like it is just a waiting game to see if he pulls through. He seemed so happy, but now I am afraid he is not going to make it. . .
Thanks!
Brian
