Stubborn Anemone!

A newly placed anemone has moved itself to the back of my tank behind one of my largest pieces of rock. Now he's been there two days and I'm not able to get to him nor feed him directly. I've tried altering the current so it would move out from behind, but as he's not getting any food and minimal light back there I'm starting to worry about it. Should I leave him or attempt to move it?

Well, that kinda stinks, but you have the right idea imho. If he went back there, he liked it back there. If you change the water and or lighting he might move somewhere else. He won't move if he likes it, and if he likes it he should be ok. Unless he's stuck. can you reach in there and get him out without moving too much stuff?

I don't have a problem with moving it as I would try if I could but he's in one hell of a spot that is almost impossible to get to. I'll just see how he does the next couple of days.
Hey I just noticed that the persons tank sizes aren't listed in the posts anymore! lol. He's in my 46g reef.

Mine the day I bought him went straight into a cave in almost darkness. He stayed there with the clown living with him and about a week and a half later he is moving around the tank. He still hasn't found a really good spot. Yours I wouldn't be to worried about him he'll come back out when he's ready.

Trust me, your anemone is not stuck. Fully open, mine is almost the size of a basketball, and I've seen him go through openings a half inch wide. He'll move around until he finds the perfect combo of light and flow. If you don't like where he ends up, you can try to change the flow to him a little, but you're probably S.O.L.! They definitly have a mind of their own, but they must have light. If he's in a cave or somewhere where he doesn't get much light give him a little time. He'll come out to where the light is.

Man, my green bubble tip did the same thing. He is in the back attached to the bottom of a large rock. There is no way to even move the rock around to the front without restructuring everything in the tank.
Well, i hope he is happy back there. :(

Anemones have the advantageous, and sometime anoying, ability to move on their own. When you put one in, you really have to accept that it is going to find where it wants to be. This is maybe not where you want it, but if you put it where it is not happy it will wither away.
I am of the opinion that anemones should really be put in their own tanks; with proper lighting, current, and other needs. Becuase they can walk, if you have a Power Head in the tank it can puree them. They really need to be able to move about the tank without the aquarist worring that his or her prized SPS coral is not going to die.
I had a bubble tip in a fifty. I put it in where I felt it would get good current and light. It moved less than an inch and stayed there for 6 months. Then one day it started on up the reef, I had to remove it because it was going to kill a number of really nice corals as it went. Since then I don't trust them.
Oh well enough ranting :)
