Have you thought of the negative effects adding the iron will have on the REST of the tank, or is this in its own tank?

I dont THINK that there are any... I use Kent Brand Iron.. its good stuff.. and I do follow the directions and add just a few drops more... mainly because I do have a refugium and also the Alveopora!
anyone else have any thoughts on the Iron in a reef tank subject???
thanks again!

the one thing i think that is most important about the reef keeping hobby is the fact that it is always changing and is not exact, what may work for one person, doesnt always work for another. I mean we can try replicating real reefs in our aquariums, but we will never get the biodiversity that is a real reef. I think that if your coral lives thats great, but dont try keeping something that is known to die in the aquarium for the sake of experimentation. Let experienced reefers deal with these hard to keep species because killing these already rare organism for the just to experiement is not ethical. Unless you know that your tank is capable of housing an organism dont bother keeping it.

I don't add anything to my tank except kalk and magnesium.
Iron is useful for growing macroalgae and accelerating coralline, but I still don't recommend using it with no test for it.

I dont believe so... its not unethical... because divers are going to collect them no matter what anyway... someone might as well get one to TRY and save its life instead of letting it sit in a temporary poor water conditioned tank at a lfs!!!
I believe that I have collected enough information to try and keep this coral alive... we will know in 2 years or more!
My goal is 6 to 8 months... this is the average life time of these corals in captivity... so that is my temporary goal as of now... the LT goal is 2 years +

Thanks Tony.... I planned on getting a test kit anyway.. asap!
