Submerge power head?

Ok, I've spent all day setting up my 55. I set up the wet dry, aquascaped the LR etc...
I have a question regarding power heads... Can they be submerged all the way? I just placed it so that the part where the power cord comes out is above water... I'd like to get some circulation further down in the tank. So can I submerge it all the way?

The box & instructions do not say anything. I think it may be ok since it looks like it's sealed. Anyway... what you guys doing with these?

I haven't heard of one that can't be submerged. The electric motors are sealed.
The powerheads are to give your tanks some circulation/current. You need to have this in a saltwater tank. The standard rule is between 10 and 20 times your tank size. So, with a 40 gallon tank you would want enough circulation to give you between 400 and 800 gallons/hr of cirrculation.
The powerhead and your filters should say how much water they pump in an hour so you can figure out how much you have.
Problems can arise if you don't have enough water current in your tank.
