submersible ph's

I bought a penguin 1140 ph rated at 300 gph. I wanted a submersible one to get good flow towards the bottom of the tank but when I got it home and read everything it didn't say "submersible"! Is there a difference or are they all submersible??
I have it at the top right now, I didn't want to drown it if it's not supposed to be drowned.
Anybody know anything about these..??
Can I or can't I??

I don't know specifically about your penguin, but most submersible pumps come with a float on them. This automatically shuts them off if the water level gets to low. I would imagine your pump is not submersible if you aren't sure. Submersibles are normally marketed specifically as such. There's a picture of one type of submersible at the link provided below and some info about penguin pumps. I couldn't find anything specifically about your pump though. Hope it helps.
