substrate issues!!

i would like to know if it is ok that i have a layer of crushed coral and a layer of live sand on top (live sand was too expensive for how much i needed). will that bottom layer of crushed coral still trap waste under the sand and cause my nitrates to go up and give me problems in the future????:help: please help

The sand will end up on the bottom and cc on top.

I suggest removing all the CC...mixing is not a good idea. You do not need to use all live sand...do a search on this board for Southdown Playsand.

just use a cheaper sand

Why is it not a good idea to mix? I have CC/LS in my tank and I dont seem to have any issues. I've been seeing lots of posts about not using CC and its making me consider replacing my substrate as well.

You could use aragonite sand too.

Yes, do a search for southdown tropical playsand it is an arrogonite based sand and is a very cheap and effective solution.

i have about 5lbs of regular sand to 1lb of CC in my 10gal
