substrate

my plans are to get a 125 gal and set it up as a aggressive tank, move the eel into it, and convert the 55 into a reef tank. at that time i'll convert the 55's substrate to 70# aragonite. my question is should i use my existing (oddball) substrate for the 125 gal, and just add more aragonite, or just chuck it and go all aragonite? would the cycle benefit from an established substrate?

What kind of substrate do you have that you are thinking about throwing away? I would think that with all the bacteria and benificial organisms in the substrate it would help your agresive tank cycle faster. I favor putting the oddball stuff in and cover it up with the agronite.
