forgot to mention that my two roommates from last semester were installers, one for bbuy and the other for ccity. they also agree with me. there is better, but not in this level.

gezzz.. i only breefly read into this but.. umm why are we saying this brand is better then this??? cuzz that is only part of the thing.. brand do count but what series sub count too... not only that but do you have the juice to pump them ?? cuzz you can have a 1000wt sub but if you are running off your deck ( which is really not possible ) then it dont matter what it is.. it will suck... as for what is my favorite brand?? well.. i have a few picks but it all depend on the sub itself...

I've used SEVERAL brands of amps that claimed to be able to handle what I planned them for. I tried about 5-6 different brands (Circuit City hated me) and finally ended up going with AudioBahn because they actually worked right and they work hard.

if i were to spend $$ for powerplants, i would save as much as i could and go with the p-gold or a soundstream davinci or reference

To say that Alpine amps are the best for SQ is rather limiting... perhaps Alpine amps are the best SQ that is offered by Best Buy... thats a little more accurate
JLs do sound great... Im personaly a Diamond Audio Fan. Im running the Diamond MacDaddy 12" DVC. And for components its Diamond all the way.

Id say it all depends on the $$$. If u buy a low end jl vs a high end kicker...well kicker's gonna hit it harder. Do some homework and go to the stores and actually listen to the subs in the enclosure u want. Me personally, i'd get inifinity components (kappas) no matter what!! i've been in this game for a while and am sold over kenwood, alpine, clarion, cadence. kappas match boston but does it for half the price. GOod stuff.
amps....pg is arguiably the best...but it costs an arm and a leg. I'd go with alpine, audiobanh, or hifonics, lanzar, soundstream.
I'm running 6 kappas with a 800x4 and 2 1000 wat punch to pull my subs hx2. Thumps awsome but bass losess a lil after a coupla years
