Well after a number of unsucessful bouts with a mantis shrimp who killed:
1 cleaner shrimp
1 Black Dot cleaner wrasse
6 Blue legged hermit crabs
5 astrea snails and two margarita snails
I used the "ginger ale technique". Just remove the rock and take a turkey baster with ginger ale and squeese it into his whole - Little guy runs right Out!!

GLAD TO HEAR IT,
oh yeah, just an update, for any who may care, jeff 903(or 309, can't remeber), the guy who was trying to get rid of his mantis, and was willing to give up all his lr for it, has successfully removed his too, he emailed me 2 days ago with his update, (sory to step in on you)
anyhow, glad to hear of your success, i would hate to have one in my main tank, too much damage potential

I too had a bout with a Mantis. Lost a Domino and a green chromatis to him. I took the rock and dipped it in water from my fresh water tank. He went nuts. Nasty creature to be sure. <img src="graemlins//uhuh.gif" border="0" alt="[U-Huh]" />

yep, and he did pretty mcuh the same thing, he got out the rock, and used club soda, they really hate that stuff, more than anything else you can shoot into their holes, gotta be the best to use

A lfs here in Tucson has a BIG Mantis Shrimp in his own acrilic (spell?) tank. I think it's cool looking... but I would NOT want 'em in my tank!

What do I do about getting my mantis shrimp out of my tank. He changes is home constantly. Would I kill all my rock if I did a quick dip of the rock in seltzer water or do I just keep trying to trap him. I have a mantis shrimp trap and i bait it every night but when i wake up the food is gone but the shrimp is never in it. The only thing I have in the trap are my hermit crabs. Any sugestion are welcome i need help with this pain in my a@#.

if you can pinpoint the rock that he is in, even for a moment, remove that rock, and tehn put it in saltwater,m then use a turkey baster and shoot club soda into his hole, he can keep changing his hole, you only need him in it for 5 minutes, that is all
oh yeah, traps, IMO, only sometims work to catch a mantis, so if at first you don't succeed(in this case) TRY SOMETHING ELSE

Yeah, its me...the a$$ who was going to give away all my lr and go to fish only to get rid of that mantis shrimp. Well he ate my peppermint shrimp and tried to get one of my clarki clowns.....I witnessed this....not a pretty sight. When they snap thier claws they make that snapping noise. Every time I hear something like that I get shivers. And now I have abolished him to eternal flames in hell!!!!! Thanks fshhub for all your help and everyone else who gave me advise on this. To anyone who has one, don't give up.

BTW - I think I got the idea originally from FSHHUB!!
It was really easy - just reomve the rock and squirt the tuff in!! My tank and the other life forms including corals that came with the rock are doing fine.
