Successfully keeping an Adult Emperor Angel

I don't know about a specific stocklist, but there are a bunch of possibilities I would personally consider if I had a tank that size (and no concerns about any inverts), that was a FOWLR with decent size fish.
Hamlet (specifically indigo)
Hogfish (probably a lyretail)
Harlequin tusk
Snooty Maori Wrasse ('cause what a name)
Rabbitfish
a larger species of hawkfish
a toby or puffer of some sort
a larger species of dottyback
tilefish
lionfish of some sort
Obviously not all can go in the tank together, and much has to be determined by your real preferences. But I think these could be possible options depending on where you balance things out elsewhere.
One question is do you ever even possible want to consider coral, or even misc invertebrates (snails and such)

There will never be any corals or inverts in there, it was kind of my thinking that I could do corals and inverts in 29 and 65 and use the 120 for fish I couldn't put with corals. I like the idea of a tusk, Wish I could do a queen angel and do other carribean stuff but tank isnt big enough, lion would be a possiblitiy but a pain to keep getting live food for. What do you think about scribbled angels and possibly doing an Austaillian biotope or A Gold Spotted and doing a Hawiian biotope?

Hogfish are cool also (really like peppermint/candy striped)
Yellow Dogface a possibility? What butterflies if any could be done? Fairy Wrasses instead of Fish Only wrasses if I had a canopy??

What were you thinking on tilefish and what is your experience with them. Always thought they were cool as well.

Id stay away from any large angel.
You what you can do is qt any new fish. then add them to the tank. If the Tang accepts them no issues.
If you must have one Id look into the scribbled or Blue spotted angel.

Im really mad now, because I had the opportunity to buy a frineds used 125 setup for about $425 and passed because this 120 looked really nice sitting in my kitchen and didnt take up much space.

Id do the following.
Keeping powder blue.
Flame Hawkfish
Percula Clownfish Pair
BiColor Angel or Flame Angel not both
Scribbled angelfish.
Call it a tank. Lots of color. Scribbled angel is a more rare angel mot many people have.

There is absolutely positively no need whatsoever to feed lionfish live food. So that is not a consideration really...fin nippers are though. So it is definitely a matter of identifying what is the (reasonable
) centerpiece fish if that is your approach and going from there.
I'm not so much a centerpiece fish type person really. I would have a hard time probably, because there are many fish I would like and would be happy with in there overall. For me it would probably come down to fish availability (I am very picky).
Also, realistically, I am not sure I could ever do a tank without any invertebrates.

well I would get all fish as small as possible. The Angel shouldnt be bigger than 4 inches but no smaller than 3. They will take over a year to outgrow your system. This will give you time. Hell I bought my 150 then saw a 210 for the same price 3 weeks later. It happens. You can sell your tank after you get longer one set up.

Yes on the fairy wrasses, open to debate on the tangs. Certainly not generic "tangs" but some, yes. I would stick with bristletooth tangs like Kole, Tomini, Chevron or similar in that footprint. Others would disagree but I've seen too much "pacing" of tanks by tangs to enjoy it much.

I guess the other question is what crypt keeper alluded to above...
Is it your intent that the fish will be able to live in this tank as full grown fish? Because it really knocks down the large angel idea in my book (but that is me).

Ah my dear, I have a 65 gallon sitting across from that will have noting but corals and inverts in it with very minimal fish. Now I am leaning towards the scribbleds or gold spot or blue girdled but Crypt Keeper says nay on the Blue Girdled.

You guys are both right, and yes I would never get out of what I would have in them with all the aforementioned angels.
Really like crypt keepers ieda of stocking somewhat lightly on the 120 and looking for a larger tank down the road, possibly an acrcyllic 8' x 2' x 2'
Another idea would be to transfer the angel if it got larger to the longer tank when i got it but it would be at least a year down the road unless I came across a great deal.

What do you guys think about butterflies, Semilevartus in or out? Levartus in or out? Whats everybody's vote on fairy wrasses?

I would not buy a fish with plans to upgrade unless you are honest with yourself. I know I have room to upgrade that is why I bought my emp. I will upgrade when the time is needed out of the 150. If your powder blue is pacing and not swimming around he is probably stressed out. I would try and sell him as well and start over. I have a kole tang in my 150. He was in the 75 and was fine in there even at 4 inches.
I would skip out on the large angel and stick with two Dwarfs. Coral beauty and Flame. Or Flame and BiColor. BiColor gets about 7 inches and is one of the most gorgeous fish we try to keep. Make sure its MAC caught and it should do well.
Any angel and tang shouldnt be placed in a tank unless it has mature rock with lots of growth. Your dead base rock that has copper in it is trash. You need to get rid of it IMO.
