Suction cups lost their suction

I have a Marineland powerhead and the suction cups won't suction to the glass anymore. I keep coming home to a sand storm in my tank.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried to reshape them by putting them in hot water for a few minutes, it works for about a day then it falls off again. It's a big pain in the

I no longer use suction cups, because I was never able to get them to work properly after 8-12 months. They just seem to degrade in saltwater. The simple fix is to buy more suction cups and change them out every year.
A better long-term solution is to buy a cheap aquarium cleaning magnet and glue the powerheads to the magnet (of course making sure that the magnet is strong enough to hold the powerhead and it's force).
