Hello all. U have a Hippo Tang I fear may have Ich. Can anyone assist in a method eaisier than taking out 150# of LR with corals on them to catch him and get the Hippo back into QT?
Example, help, thoughts, or if someone would like to stop by tonite or tomorrow and get her out??? Thanks all for your support.

Put a algae sheet in a clear bucket in the tank and when she goes into eat, block her exit and pull her and the bucket full of water out.
this may take a little time to get her to accept that its safe to go into bucket and eat but it should work.

I personally would try the garlic method first over taking everything out. When I took my rocks out, NOTHING goes back the same way when I had it. It takes me hours to get it back in order, but everything looks different. Garlic method has always worked for me and I'm sticking to it. :happyfish

Garlic will NOT cure ick. Only copper or hypo will cure ick. Garlic will only help to prevent ick and help a fish during ick by keeping its appetite but it will not cure. You need to get him into a qt. Try soaking some pellets in garlic and laying them in your net. Wait a few minutes and hope he goes in.

One small long fish net, using the back side of it (the handle), other is a clear container so as he can't tell what your doing there. Run him with the net handle into a corner where the clear container is.

Garlic will boost the fish's immune system as well. It also does something to the ich, can never remember what it's called. Someone on here helped me out once by finding that site, are you out there??...lol...But seriously, don't knock it til you try it. Not oppose to Hypo, but copper is NOT good to use with tangs!!!! It will eventually cause problems, been there done that with copper treatment on tangs!!!! It's late at night, plus I had a long day at work, can't think....Otherwise I'll get into more details about the copper and maybe find that site about garlic....Got another long day tomorrow....By the way, none of my fish will go anywhere near a net, I highly doubt that will work. They're not stupid, once you try catching them with a net once, they'll remember for life. At least my fish does..... :happyfish

That sounds like a better idea! I still go with the garlic method IMO to reduce stress period.... :happyfish

ich isn't always fatal, depending on the fish's immune system. but garlic does definitely not cure ich. it can help the fish's immune system so it will suppress the ich, but it will still have ich in it's system. that basically means the fish will be a ticking timebomb as the ich will probably resurface at the slightest stress (like adding even a small fish). if you know it's ich, I'd do hyposalinity. It's a very aggravating process that I've done a number of times. but once completed, you know the ich is gone.
