Suggestions on RO/DI

We are brand new to this hobby and everyone is suggesting using RO/DI water. In your opinion what is the best RO/DI filter out there as far as quality and money..

IMO it's not the unit itself it's the filters you put in them. I would tell you where to get one but we can't post web sites here. Look for the a site with these words, Air, Water, and Ice.

As for quality the Five Stage SpectraPlus 2000 systems are really nice, has a two stage deionizer. These RO units are a bit pricey tho, they range from $300-480.00. But as for quality it`s hard to beat.

airwaterandice...dual home/reef setup...with 75 gpd upgrade 199.00 (50gpd standard)...with this, you get everything for the faucet in your kitchen and a pressure tank...also, you simply turn a knob and open a spigot for the reef portion...drinking portion doesn't go through the DI part to extend its life.

does that mean i can put any type of filters in my RO/DI unit?
Also, i think waterpressure has something to do with the quality. higher pressure, better water.

I have to also say airwaterice and the Typhoon III. It is just a great system and you can't beat the price. You can buy one of the big names and pay twice as much if you want, but when you get 0 on your TDS meter as I do with the water made by the Typhoon III, you can't get any better than that.

Water preasure has nothing to do with the quality. As far as the filters go, there are a lot of manufactures out there. As long as you stick with a decent filter you should have good quality water.

What is a TDS meter? what does it measure? and how much does one cost?

Kip said about the TDS. Kip, your tap water isn't too bad by itself. When I checked my tap, I had around 470 for tap, 400 if I used a filter like a britta, 15 for RO and 0 for the RO/DI. I live in Florida which has very hard water.
