Summer Project - Koi Pond

Just wanted to share pictures of the beginning of our summer project. My husband decided to start a Bog filtration Koi pond in our backyard. the Pond will be 3.5 ft at the deepest to 2 ft at the most shallow end. We decided to put the pond inside the fenced in portion of the yard that the dog shares for safety reasons.
At this point we are still working on the cinderblock foundation
the dimensions are 16ft long X 8ft wide
because of work schedules we normally only have 1 day a week to devote to the pond - so at this point we anticipate having it done within 3 weeks. (bog planted, and waterfall working at that point - as well as the aesthetics of it looking much better...) -- more pictures to come as we get further along

That is gonna be a huge pond. I thought about doing the same thing. I have never seen one with the block foundation. What advantages does it have??are you gonna pour concrete on the bottom, or use a liner?? any river rocks?? I am just asking because I don't know how I want to build mine. Any help you can give will be appreciated.

We perferred the concrete block foundation because we want to ensure that it was strong enough to hold that amount of water. After we put on two more rows up and continue to fill the entire thing with Concrete and Rebar then we will place the felt pad above the ground for the purpose of Frost barrier
then the black rubber liner.
The smaller segment will be filled with lava rock and the surround and ledge will have the nice pieces of rock that we had to dig through on it to make it much better

May I Make A Suggestion?
Use A Skimmer Type Pump (like A Pool Filter Setup) And Not A Submersible. I Used A Submersible On Mine And I Find That It Gets Clogged Fairly Easy With Debris And What Not.

I used both a submersable for mine and a pool filter the submersable ran my fountain and my waterfall and would constaly get clogged until i got the pool filter installed. Pool filter worked wonders for me. I live in florida the only mistake i made was not putting a net over pond and an egret got a very expensive lunch.

Looks like it will be nice. I wanna see some pics when finished. I agree get an external filter not a submersible. Unfortunatley I can't change to an external filter now, since the way it's built.
