I want to put a 20 long sump for my 80 gall. This is about all the room i have to work with under the DT. Right now i have aTOM AQUACIS WET/DRY CANSTER. with the overflow the pump is 700 gph. I wanted to keep the same overflow box and pump will this work with a 20 gal sump? Also i wanted to have room for the option for a large in sump skimmer. Would the skimmer go in the same compartment where the water flow is? Would the fuge be the next spot and then the pump? Can i just use the flex hose that came with the overflow? How would secure the out take hose? Anybody any pics or idea please reply. Thanks T_dog

this is a link to my frag tank thread, there are pics in there of my 10g sump. but yes you put the skimmer where the water from the main tank enters the sump. this skimmer should be over rated for your tank, a 80g with a 20 Long sump, you should have a skimmer rated at a 120g tank or better....
i have the water drain to the left chamber where i have live rubble rock and the skimmer goes here. then it drains through baffles to the fuge in the middle, then through baffles again where my return pump is..........

how far apart do i keep the baffles? Or how many baffles?

IMO 1.5 inches or more apart on the baffles. You need to calculate backwash and leave enough room in the sump for it when it drains down.
DT measurements.
L X W XH (amount expected to backwash, usually 2in does it) / 231
Try to make the fuge compartment as big as possible. Leaving only exactly what is needed for the skimmer. I would recommend, if you don't already have one, a octopus extreme 160 for that DT. It has a small footprint so it will leave More room for fuge, PLUSS it will skim like crazy. Just realize that the octopus extreme, and the MSX skimmers are the SAME EXACT SKIMMER, just a different sticker. The MSX extreme 160 would be the same as the octo extreme 160. Be sure to set the skimmer compartment at around 10in, the fuge , if after the skimmer, can only be as high as the skimmer compartment. Likewise, by moving the skimmer and fuge compartments, you can have a much higher water level in the fuge than the skimmer. Water runs down hill. Personally, I like the fuge first design just for this reason. I think the "skimmer eating pods" is a load of hogwash. Possibly a bubble tower in the drain section also? Especially if there's a ton a micro bubbles entering the sump from the drain. (There will be LOL) I like to do this because bubbles float cheato as well as the strong flow will stir your SB up.
Here's an example sump
