If you can use a sump, then use a sump. The sump offers you more options and hides alot of the equipment which is a plus. I adds more water volume to the system which is another plus.

You do not have to drill holes in the 55 to use a sump. You can get what is called and overflow box. It hang on the back of the tank, and syphins water down to the sump. and then a pump will send the water back up to the tank.

If you are able to use a sump, you might as well. Alot of people add sumps to their system after time.

Get a Sump. It's a lot more beneficial. You don't need to drill holes just get an overflow and return pump.

I would get a sump/refugium or wet/dry....but it depends on what you want to do and keep in the tank. What are your plans?

I agree, sump...save money in the long run, buy a bigger tank now. Do lots of research on what you intend to keep. Good luck :happyfish
