Sump plans

I'm new at this and working on designing a sump myself. some of what ive read about sumps in one place conflicts with things ive read in another place and some things are similar. One thing that stays constant through all the research i've done is that you should try to keep the return and the overflow as far apart as possible so that you're cycling water over a greater area.

I did almost the same thing, but I put my skimmer in the first section were the water comes from the tank, water level is always constant there, and make your refugium bigger

i do the carbon last so everything else has a chance to scrub the water. here's a pic of my homemade fuge/sump. i can go find my thread if you'd like. note the lower baffle at the end--prevents bubbles.

ok so here is the deal, i havent gotten my tank yet or seen its overflow, i believe that it has 2 holes in the overflow so i was thinking that i would use one to drain down to the sump and the other to have the pipe going from the sump to the tank in. that is what is in the pic. should i use both holes for a drain and put a return on one of the ends of the tank.
Renogaw, if you could find your thread for me that would be great.
thanks

my new tank has the overflow built in with the drain to the sump and the return to the tank drilled in the bottom. here's my sump build thread, it's a 30 gallon tank and there's not much room whatsoever in it for very much.

ok so i went and looked at the tank today and it has two holes in the overflow. i am going to use both for drain and just put some PVC from the sump to return the water to the tank.
