Sump Question

Ok guys need a little help here. I plan on making my own rubbermaid sump so to speak for my 90 gallon tank. Now here are my questions.
1. How much live rock should i put in the sump?
2. Do i need to put a light on my sump?
3. Now i understand you let gravity feed your sump from the tank, with this in mind what diameter of the pvc used?
4. Since i hear drilling a hole in the bottom of the tank is the way to go. Can you do this to a glass tank your self without compromising the glass?
Thanks!!!

You want to put as much LR as you can in the sump. You dont really need to put a lights on the sump if you dont plan on growing anything. If you plan on growing any type of algae then you will definitely need lights. For a 90 gal, you should either do 1" or 1 1/2" PVC depending on how fast of a flow you want. There is one BIG thing that you overlooked with drilling your tank. Almost every single tank has a bottom made from tempered glass, which will shatter when drilled, so drilling the bottom is a no, unless you know for sure that the glass isnt tempered on the bottom. It would be safer to drill the back instead of the bottom. You can drill the tank yourself. If you look up on utube, you will be able to find many videos on how to drill a tank and the materials needed.
