IN about 8 months my home will be finished being built... We are planning on about a 240 in wall tank plummed into the basement...
What are some of the pros and cons to the sump or fuge... should i use 1 or the other, should i use both....
What exactly are each?

Both... a sump typically just holds equipment. A refuge can have a DSB, macro algae, etc for nutrient export.

is there a certain percentage of the main tank each should be or as long as all the equipment fits in the sump the sump doesnt matter?

Yeah the sump just needs to be big enough to fit all of the equipment. The refuge IMO needs to be as big as possible.

you need to find Squidd's Plumbing 101 on this site for answers to all your questions about sump and fuge. search for it under the Equipment DIY section. its invaluable to your project...good luck.

No a fuge is not mandatory, it's just another way for biological filtration, and to introduce things like pods into you display tank.
