Sump w/out dividers?

Wondering if anyone out there had a sump without dividers. Basically a tank with only some LS and/or LR, a heater, a skimmer and a return pump? Looking to do it this way w/out macroalgaes and as simple as possible for my 40G. breeder. Thinking about maybe a 10-20 G. sump? Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

theres no SET rule saying that you have to have dividers, for instance i know a few people(includeing my self) who has a wet/dry filter protein skimmer return pump and whatever others we want in the sump with no dividers

This is how I'm building them...
The dividers are important to regulate flow. They are also relatively easy to add so fear not... a little plexiglass from Home Depot, a cut with a utility knife, bend until the plexi snaps, apply aquarium sealant, wait 48 hrs and voulla!
Also, you can make the return chamber a bit larger, if you'd like a skimmer. I'm one of those wierdos that believed skimmers are counter-productive for rrefugiums.
