hey i have a question about a protien skimmer/sump still kinda new so bear with my device terms lol is this protien skimmer appropriate for a 28 gal soon to be reef tank? and does it mean it when it says just plug it in or will i have to spend another $100 in additional items to make it work?

As long as you have a sump to put it in it is ready to work. I thought of buying one myself. Talked to the people that mfg. them and seemed like good people. He did say that the tank size recomendations are a little high before he knew what size tank I have so I felt he was shooting me straight. I was looking at the one rated for 125 gallons and he said realistically 75 was as big as he would use it on.

wait i'm sorry i'm a bit confused i do need additional equipment or i guess my question is referring to the sump ummmm what exactly is it and or what does it consist off

Sump is a tank below your main tank that water drains from your main tank into. There you can have your skimmer, heater and such. Then you would have a pump to return the water back up to the main tank. So I would guess you dont have one?

your guess would be completely and totally accurate i'm new and kinda learnin as i go readin up and learnin before i do stuff thanks for the help would a hang on protein skimmer with a uv sterilizer be better or as efficiant on my 28 gal.

I ran a hang on skimmer on my 55 gallon for 2 years with no problem. Never used an UV sterilizer so I cant comment except to say a lot of people use them. I used a seaclone hang on that most would say are junk but I never had any trouble with, but I was new at it and wouldnt have known if I was or not.

thanx i thing i'm goin to purchase the "Via Aqua Multi-Skimmer Deluxe" do you know anything about it i'm not sure about the uv sterilizer but for 20 bux more i figure i can't really go wrong

I dont know anything about them. I was looking at the other one because for the price I figured it was worth a shot. I have looked at the multi skimmer some but going to wait until after the holidays before I buy anything else.
