Sump

I kinda have an idea for a sump, not really a sump but its something just as good for me.
I plan to get a huge 50 gallon container and put it under my stand for my 55 gallon tank and add two power heads. One power head has a hose connected to the filter, thats in the container and then one with a hose going to the aquarium. That waay theres always room for error with more water..
Let me know if anyone thinks this will work.

Q#1: How is the water going to get to your container? Overflow box or drilled tank?
#2: What is the "filter" you're talking about?!
#3: What brand/model of powerheads are you using?
#4: How far is it from the bottom of the container to the top of your tank?
Answer these 4 questions and we'll know if this is going to work for you.....sounds to me like you need to do some more homework (using the "search" feature of this board) first!
Let us know!

it wont work you will have to have one method as an overflow i had the same idea but i realized that if there i even the slightest difference in the amount of water something will overflow

Well I was thinking of measuring each water line and making sure that it wouldnt overflow. The idea would be to put the end of the hose that flows to the maintank about an inch in the water that would keep it from overflowing the main tank. And vise versa with the other hose. This really isnt an idea for a sump but more or less having extra water to play with, incase something evil thats pollutes the water. I thought it also would be good to harvest live rock in.

Profion,
Aceiswild7 is not only wild, but right! I thought of all kinds of ideas until I actually started DOING something and figured out what would and what would not work.....I came to realize that I was NOT going to "reinvent the wheel" REALLY quickly and just gave in and used people's advice and ideas....along with my own tweaks. Email me if you want some solid ideas for your below tank sump. I can tell you an easy way to convert one section of it into a nitrate-fightin refugium too! (check my diagram link below)
Oh, and if you still want to make your idea a reality, get ready to call a carpet cleaner! :) Have fun!
