Sump ?

I have 76 Half round reef ready Oceanic w/ 20 Gal Oceanic sump. How high should the water level be in the sump? Right now its nearly full, well just enough so if the power cuts off it wont overflow. Anyway it seems the water level should be below the last partition before the pump, so the water will filter through the sponge seated in that partion; is this correct?
Im currently in cycling stage with LR and Sand only.

A pic would help.
If the sump will not overflow if power gets cut off, that says you are not too high.
From what you are describing, it sounds like all chambers have plenty of water in them and the last chamber with the return pump is only slightly below the baffle overflow. That is where I keep mine to avoid the running waterfall sound from the last chamber.
Post a pic and we will find out for sure what your setup is.

Looks like the water level is way over the last partition. If that is the case, your level is too high. You want the level in the final chamber just below the partition.
Nice looking tank though!!

Do you feel that the curved shape distorts things inside at all? I seem to think that the curvature would magnify/amplify what is inside and cause a strange appearance to it. Having never had one, I really don't know. Opinions?

Thats what i was thinking so thanks for the input.
As far as distortion is concerned I will say yes/no. Yes if you are right up on the tank looking from side to side, but from about 2+ feet away the distortion is really not there. Its really about preference i suppose and the tank looks good from all 180 degree angles.

a good rule of thumb is about half way maybe just a tad over half. But with partitions you want it to just overflow the first partition.

One thing you can do is to take a razor blade and cut out that partition and go to a glass company and have a taller one cut and then just put it where the original one is at and you can still use your foam and plus get more water volume
