How would you nurse one of these back into shape? I just got one in bad shape for $5.00, but I am hoping to get it back in shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Feed him alot. Feed your tank bioplankton about an hour before your lights go off. After the lights are off, he will extend his polyps out and you can then spot feed him with mysis or brine. It will get used to this feeding time and will become very easy. Takes me under 5 minutes total time. Mine used to have some dead looking spots on the skeleton but after a few months of feeding him twice a week, those spots have grown orange tissue over them like they have healed. Good luck.

IME if the head has started to go...it will. But will leave behind tissue that form new heads.
It looks like from that pic that some heads have died off completely but some tissue still remains.
This is a good sign of regeneration!!
As long as there isnt a large swing in WC it should repopulate that rock!

They opened under actinic lights tonight and I fed them. Some of them have very small tops on them and I have 4 or 5 with decent sized tops to them. Kind of hard to get each and everyone to get something to eat. I guess we will keep trying. I hope to get them some live brine tomorrow.

I have heard people say in the past, that you can feed your entire tank oyster eggs, and that will be sufficiant food for sun corals. I still spot feed however. Oyster eggs definately make the polyps come way out though. I usually alternate between eggs and Phyto. Then Mysis once they entend themselves. Now that they have gotten used to the feeding regimen, they will exntend every night at the same time, even when I am not feeding. They are doing well.

They are now actually showing themselves pretty decently. I have been using phyto and brine shrimp. To me I think they will be up and going in no time.
