what are your water perameters.also sun coral polyps come out at night ,the polyps have to be individually fed .also put it in a lower light area

you would see skeleton if it was dead. try putting some cyclopeez or mysis shrimp near it to entice it a little. they need to be fed regularly.

Sun coral needs low light, strong flow.
If you have no flow in tank, it won't be happy.
closing up for 3 wks don't do harm to it.
It can say close for an extended period.
You should post a pic of the tank along with the water paremeter so people can help you

sun corals do not use photosynthesis, so it really doesnt matter if its low light or not. But I wouldn't keep them under direct light because if algae starts to grow, that will overgrow the coral and kill it. Keep it under shade is best. It needs to have somewhat moderate flow across it and not directly.
keep putting mysis shrimp on its skeleton and let it sit there for 20minutes, and do this everyday or so at the SAME time. Once you do this, eventually after couple of days they will open up at the same time.

I learned a great way to feed these guys from another board member several months ago. It works...cut out the bottle of a plastic milk or soda bottle. Take the cap off and place it over the sun coral. Squirt in some mysis and seal the cap. This keeps the 'food' near their 'mouths'. Leave for 20-30 minutes. When you remove the bottle you will probably note that they are all open. I do this 3x weekly..........

You could throw it down a flight of stairs and it wouldnt hurt it. They are just finiky eaters, try cyclops or cyclopeze and it should begin to open up in time. Spot feeding isnt really manditory but they are slow to feed so if NOT spot feeding then make sure they are getting food from the flow for several minutes.
I dont spot feed mine and they open fine. just takes time for them to get adjusted

i feed mine a mix of cycolpeez, scallops and mysis. I have babies all over my tank. when I got it they were half dead. they tripled in size now. they can be a pain in the ass. use an eye dropper and just squirt it in their mouths.
