Well, I tried a lot of free ones too, but finally went with smugmug at $29.99 a year. You can't really build web pages there...just post pictures in galleries, but you get unlimited space and unlimited traffic. I don't even downsize my photos before uploading them there and some of my pictures are upwards to 2MB each. I have been very happy with them for what they do. If you are looking to build a website, you may want to try somewhere else.
P.S. they don't mind you linking pictures to other sites...like here.
