I have a standard 55g tank, and I'm looking to maybe pick up a 48" 2x150w hqi sunpod fixture. I have a standard aga canopy...the back is open and top has about 2 inch spaces between the wood pieces. As you know, the aga canopies are not that tall. If I stick this fixture in there that low...about 3-4in above the water level, is it going to generate too much heat? Will it melt the middle brace on the tank? I know the fixture has built in ballasts...in the top of the fixture. I do have a fan that runs on a timer now which blows over the water for airflow within the canopy. It's either this or some ready fit tek t5's....help me out. Also, I'm in north dakota...and in the summer I have trouble keeping it below 82 with 4 t5s running now with the fan running 2-3 hours a day. I do keep the t5s running about 10 hours though. Of course the winter should not be a problem.
