Sunpod

I have a Sunpod with the metal halide lights in it. They certainly do make the tank beautiful, but using the sunpod as directed, it always raises the temperature in my tank after a few hours. I have an aquapod 24 and was trying to keep the temperature at around 77.2. Unfortunately, if I run the lighting, after a few hours it goes up to 79 or even 80. I don't want to hurt my critters with high temps, or not be able to put in corals and anemones later because I'm not using good enough lighting.
Has anyone else solved this problem except with a chiller (would cost more than the set up itself :)). I'd really appreciate any assistance. I've already learned a LOT from these forums. Thanks to everyone for their help.

The temperature is not your problem. 78-80 is actually ideal IMO. The problem is the temperature fluctuation in such a short time. You really dont want more than a 2 degree temperature change within 24 hours. I have the Sunpod on my 46 gallon reef. I bought a small clip on fan and set it up so it grazes the top of the water in my tank. This helped keep the tank much cooler by increasing evaporation. My tank temperature stays 79-80. Works well and i saved a few hundred bucks not buying a chiller.

Interesting, thank you. I had been yelled at before that my temperatures were too high. I'll work on keeping things stable. I will try the fan idea. More fun to have :).

I use a 36" 2x150watt Sunpod on my 65 gal. and I love it.
But, I now have to run my a/c all day and also switched the timing of my lights so that the MHs are on from 8pm - 2am est. Night time is more my viewing time, so that worked out better for me.
Now my temp only varies from 80.5 - 82.0
