I do realize the firefish will jump. The only openings on the tank are a couple spots in the back where the filter and protein skimmer enter the tank. I could probably seal those up tight too if I needed. After I posted I read similar things on the Tang, so I'll probably nix that one.
Do you have any recommendations instead of the firefish and the tang?

Like I said before, you could probably get a Kole Tang instead if you want to keep a tang in the tank.
Personally, I like my purple firefish. She is a graceful swimmer and while she has not tried to jump while I have ever watched my tank it is always the possibility.
You could go to Menards in FTD or Home Depot in Ames and get some eggcrate to go over the top of your tank which will help. If the firefish decides to jump (or any for that matter) the odds of getting through the eggcrate to the floor are minimal.

It looks like i'm going to have to wait at least a little more. I kept changing about 20-30% water daily to take care of the nitrate problem, it is good now, but I measured today and my ammonia is working it's way up. I think I somehow made the tank start re-cycling itself.

Long time no chat. We talked about this before.
Animal Oasis is the place and he is on Main Street. Unfortunately, I'm now losing my LFS due to relocation. I believe the store you sold your birds to is the former owner of Animal Oasis if memory serves me correctly. Therefor, Mason City, Des Moines, Algona (Algona has severely limited products), or online it will be for me to continue this obsession.
By the way, I ended up with the most beautiful Madarin last night from the owner's private tank. My husband was in bed before the owner came over, so tonight when he gets off work he gets to see the little bugger.
The Mandarin isn't as shy as others I've seen - this morning he has been all over the tank and constantly grazing between the rocks.
