Ok, so im one of "those" people who bought something without doing proper research on it.. i otherwise research EVERYTHING but on this one thing I obviously didnt.. I was wondering, is there anything I can supplement feed my star fish (Sand sifting) I have suggested we take it back and get a serpent but my husband and children are already in love with our starfish and would be really upset if we got rid of it. Obviously I dont want it to starve to death!...

Personally, if I did not want it, I would take it back. Sometimes children need to learn life can suck sometimes and it is how you deal with it. But if you can't take it back, I would try like oysterfeast or phytofeast maybe something like that. I am no expert.

perhaps you would tell your children to suck it up but in our home our fish (And yes, that includes starfish) are pretty much pets, that and we choose not to tell our children to suck it up but hey, everyone is different. We would rather not take it back if we can help it.. if its basically a death sentence for the star we would consider doing so.. *if* we can supplement feed it in addition to the natural waste and goodies of the sand then we would like to do that.. im not sure how we would go about doing that though, thus the reason behind the post.

The only thing I can sugest is buying 10 lbs of real live sand like they sall here and really seeding your sand, but I can tell you I had one in my 55 gal tank that had been up a yr and it slowly starved.

You can try - anything meaty - but few will take to spot feeding. The only change is a large system with limited amount of LR and a deep sand bed. then there is a chance, but you are looking in the 150g range.

to be on the safe side we took it back today.. the people at the LFS said it had a really good chance of living considering i had alot of live rock and live sand but i didnt want to risk it. I wouldnt forgive myself if it died because i was being selfish.. perhaps ill get a serpent or something down the road.
Thanks everyone who left helpful info!
