this has been a major topic on the radio shows here. this guy was on and said he's not refusing to serve non english speaking customers, just asking that if you speak english a little to use it. I dont think he's being unreasonable.

I fully support him as well. Why should he have to lose money because customers don't speak his language? He is the owner of the establishment. When he makes something that he thought someone wanted, he expects to make money off of that. He does not want to lose money on it when the non-English speaking person points at the sandwhich and shakes their head. He is just wasting his own money then.
There has been plenty of people who have come to this country from other countries. They have all attempted to try and learn English though. Some of these people out there today have been here 10-15 years and aren't even trying to learn English, as if we (English speaking people) should bend over backwards for them.
Geno also takes a lot of heat for being against freeing Mumia Abu-Jamal, the guy who killed the Philadelphia police officer. I have always supported him on that one, as well.

They say English is the hardest language to learn because of all the slang words.

He is not saying you need to learn perfect English though. He is asking that you learn enough English so that you can order the cheese steak you want and he does not have to make it 3 times to get it right. If he has to remake a cheesesteak three times, he loses all that money on the first 2.
Heck, if I moved to France, I would not expect them to bend over backwards for me and speak English (and they wouldn't anyway). Speak the language of the country you are in.

I agree. English is the hardest language to learn, but if you don't want to learn it, don't come here.

MATHMATICS THEN AND NOW
Last week I purchased a burger and fries at McDonalds for $3.58. The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies. While looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried. Why do I tell you this?
Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?
Teaching Math In 1980
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers.)

Un ranchero vende una carretera de madera para $100. El cuesto de la produccion era $80. Cuantos tortillas se puede comprar?

Thanks guys, I considered a blog, but I just don't have the time with everything on my plate. Besides I'm not much of a trend follower. But I do appreciate the kind words.
