Sweet New Fish

I bought a pygmy angel for my tank. But its different then the common blue body yellow face ones my LFS got it in and at first thought it was shipping stress as to why it was so dark in color. I looked at it and then researched, its called a white tail pygmy angel. This one isnt mine but this is what it looks like. Unless it is more common than what I read. In that case its just freakin cool...

That is a sharp fish. My favorite group of fish are the Angels. I just wish they were more compatible with each other. Why cant they all just get along :D

Yea Im excited to see something that isnt as common in my LFS tanks all the time. Its in its second week of quarantine at my LFS. They are cool like that, as long as you pay for it they will quarantine it for you for a couple of weeks on top of holding all live stock for a week before it goes out for sale anyway.

Love that little angel!~ I've never seen one of those, and my LFS usually gets a wide variety of fish that aren't typically seen that often.
I *have* seen a tiny lemonpeel angel... totally gorgeous. I want it so bad for my 29 Biocube. Do you know if it would work for our tanks?

I think a tiny lemonpeel angel would work in a 29g Biocube, You should have no problem with that.

Yea I agree you could do a lemonpeel in your tank just monitor it for a while just to make sure it doesnt have an appetite for Zoa's. But it a dwarf species and doesnt get any larger than 3". And it looks really cool too.

Lemonpeels get 6" not 3". or did you mean your pygmy?
the recommended minimum is 30 gallons, but im thinking a 29 is fine.
also, to add, this angel needs more greens in its diet than other angels.
I almost chose this angel over some of the ones i have now... but i will have it someday.
IMO, there best feature is the light blue ring they have around their eyes

Very nice pygmy angel! I would QT the fish yourself though. This angel will need mature LR to graze off of and be sure to feed him Angel formula foods.

Thanks, and yes my intention is to QT him myself too. The FS I get my stock from is IMO more sophisticated than the chain stores or even smaller private places. They employ a marine biologist, and IMO thats kinda odd for a FS to do. The beauty of this place being smaller and more dedicated to the health of their live stock than making a buck is, their tanks are not all plumbed together. They have hospital tanks set up and ready for sick fish. And IMO they are very knowledgable. I get to go there when ever I want and check him out to make sure its doing ok.
My tank is almost 10 months old, and from what I am told formula 2 is a good food to feed it. Unless anyone else has another sugestion for food, I am definatly all ears.

That's a cool thing. That Fish Place is about 40 min for me and they have 4 marine biologists on staff, though with the volume of fish they get in they do have some no-so-healthy ones at times, plus there's the drive. I used to go to one that's 5 minutes from my house and specializes in saltwater/reef only, but they changed ownership last year and it hasn't been the same since... I'm back to going to That Fish Place for everything...

Yea its taken me a while to justify the extra money they charge for their livestock but there has been circumstances that have proven their worth over the "chain" type stores around me. So, now as far as live stock goes its an easy decision. FYI this place is getting in a red carpet anemone, from what I understand its not dyed. They are charging $600 for it, a customer special ordered it. I am hoping to get a picture of it.

The tiny lemonpeel that I saw has been sold. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for another tiny one that comes in, and may get it, but with my luck, I'll probably get one that has an appetite for zoas and I can't have that!

My latest fascination has been zoas and ricordeas. Do the pygmy/dwarf angels have a tendency to eat/nip at zoas? I know that I've read that occasionally they may nip at a polyp, but is this really very common with them to worry about?

Technically they all have that possibility, but it's a 50/50 shot whether they actually will. Personally, if you don't have palys, I'd say it's not so bad to give it a shot. Of course, if you have palys, because of the palytoxin levels there, it's possible that they could die from trying to eat them.

IMO if they dont have the need to nip at them then they wont. I think if kept well fed they should do fine and in many many instances they are ok. Although like already said there is the chance. For as many zoa's as I have I am willing to try it.
