Aw come on, we can look, appreciate without commenting; especially me, I type real slowly.. Nice fish, usually mistaken for a volitan; is he eating well yet? Tankmates?

well i'm going to try feeding him tonight. I got him last night so I let him get used to the water and me before I feed him.
And thanks for comments

Ok that liopn looks just like mine. How can you tell the difference between a violatan and the russel? And does it matter?

Nice. I have an empty tank thinking of geting a lion of some kind and I keep seeing these cool pics and getting tempted more and more. I am hesitant because of the LIVE FOOD thing. Can they be taught to accept morsels fairly easily? How big is it right now?

Its about 5 in long. You can get lions to eat a lot of fozen foods.
I did have a dwarf lion a long time ago and I got him to eat silversides.
I'm going to try feeding him tonight with silversides too, I will have you guys updated.

It is easy to get lions over to frozen foods, just use a feeding stick, and wiggle the food by him, let him chase it a bit. after a while they will come up to the top and eat anything you toss in.
Very nice looking lion by the way

there are some slight differences. the easiest ones that i can see is the lack of the large tentacles above the russel's eyes, and a couple of differences on the caudal fin. the russel's doesn't seem to have the T marking on the peduncle nor the spots on the fin itself.
anybody know an easier way to tell?
nice fish by the way.

Actually it is the opposite. Russells do have the large tentacles above the eyes. Volitans do not. The Russell also does not have spots on the dorsal, anal, and tail fins. They don't have bands on the dorsal spines either. Very nice fish!

thats so awesome!! i have a V.lionfish. the way i tell is that the yours have more "flares" on the dorsal than a volitan...so yours looks like a zebra dwarf. i could be way off. but either way it looks like a juvie. thats how it looks to me tho.i hope my man is here he can deff. lead you in the right direction. lion_crazz where you at!!
