Switching Aquariums

Next Week I will be switching from a biocube 29 to a Nano-Cube HQI. I will be putting in new live sand. I am wondering if I can siphon the water from the old one directly into the new one and place me livestock into the new tank imediately? I have no idea if this is safe or not, so I though I'd ask here before I just do it. I figure I may make up for a gallon or two difference, but it would be no diffenet than adding new water when performing a water change.
My other idea if this doesn't work is to do about a 4 gallon water change in the current setup and take that water mixed with new to get the new tank started, then proceed as a completly new setup.
What are your opinions?

if you transfer the rock and live stock quickly, yes you can siphon the water over. i would add some new saltwater to the new tank so when you start switching over the live rock and live stock there will be water in there. then just siphon the old water into the new tank.....def use new sand if you can

I do plan on using new live sand. I figured I would do enough of the water to have some in the new tank with the live rock. Then start to siphon the water over and move the live stock. thanks for confirming that this would work. I thought it would, but I'm by no means an expert at any of this.

I recently went from a 55 gallon to a 34 gallon. I used 75% water from the 55 gallon and added 25% RO saltwater. I put in new sand, I used fiji pink sand, not live, because I didn't want to cause a huge spike. Transferred live rock, corals, and live stock immediately into the new tank. Checked water parameters daily for the first week. No problems. Well, slight one, a little bit of diatom collecting on the new sandbed. I probably leave my halides on too long!
