Switching diet on a queen?

I have a 5 inch Queen angel that my brother caught for me. Right now I am feeding it algae sheets, frozen brine and the occasional tunicate and sponge I get from the ocean.
I have a problem however, I am leaving in 2 weeks for about 2 weeks and I need to switch him over to something I can put in an automatic food dispenser. I picked up some pellets for large marine fish, but he doesn't seem interested in them at all.
Is it possible to switch his diet, or do I need to go find a bunch of sponges from the ocean to last for 2 weeks?

Aren't you going to have someone to come by during this time? If some just switch to the frozen foods and have them divided in little ziplocks in the freezer for the sitter. All they will have to do is pull one out for each day and feed them for you. I would be really afraide to leave my tank for 2wks without a sitter. All it takes is one little thing to mess up and it will turn really bad.

I assume you mean caught from the ocean!
This is a no no. It could introduce a number of parasites to your system and DO NOT put it back in the ocean, as a disease from your system could be introduced to the ocean. I do not know what to tell you about it's diet. I am pretty sure some one else will chime in .

It's a budget tank. :)
Just about everything has been donated to me or I have collected, hence I can't afford a sitter.
Everyone I know is going to be out of town for that time so I really don't have anyone to take care of my angel, shrimp, damsel, and puffer.
My only option is an automatic feeder.

hey MIE, why are you so shocked of the "caught in the ocean" statement? are the majority of swf sold in lfs today all caught in the ocean. ive never heard of large angels being tank raised.

My statement says it all. Some people that catch critters from the ocean realize that they dont work out and end up putting them back or into tributaries thus introducing foreign disease or forein species into there natural enviroment........the problems are endless.

There are two things it will eat once it gets used to it; Dainichi Reef Veggie FX and Formula Two Marine Pellets. Stop feeding your angel its normal food and start feeding these instead. Do not use flake food. Use these sinking pellets. Your angel is more likely to eat them off the bottom, which is a more natural way they eat, vs things floating in the water column.
If it does not seem interested, soak a small amount in garlic and then feed them right away. This may be enough to get it interested. Formula Two already has garlic in it, but it’s not real concentrated.
Good luck man.

What about top offs for the tank? Thats way to long not to add water to a tank.
By queen, what do you mean, queen anthias? If so, they are very picky eaters. Most will only eat cyclopeeze and some frozen foods if you are lucky.
