Within a month I'll be switching over my 38 gallon to a 90 gallon....I need step by step as to how I do it. I CAN have both tanks running side by side for a short time if it would make it easier....only thing is I'll be using the 60 pounds of sand in my 38 when i do the swtich...how do i get this out? Will the 38 be ok with no sand while the 90 cycles...I've got 40 gallons of RO water so far, I'll be getting more when the time for the switch gets near...can anyone help me with this? I have no idea what I'm going to do...

What are you going to have for filtration on the 90? My suggestion would be to setup the 90, and let it cycle as you would any other tank then slowly move the contents of the 38 over to the 90 after the cycle is completed. When it's time to move I would drain some of the water from the 38 into a holding container, and move the livestock into that with an airstone, heater, and powerhead. Then move the substrate/LR into the 90. After that settles acclimate the livestock into the 90. The only thing is you may need to monitor the 90 after moving everything over at ounce there may be an ammonia spike. So watch it closely for the 1st few days.

Thinking about this -- I think your best option is a third temporary tank. This way, you can acclimate your fish slowly to the third tank (which can be just a plain small tank with a good filter using water from your 38) Then, move over your items from your 38 to the 90. Let the 90 cycle for a while with the additions, then add your fish to it using an exaggerated acclimation procedure. Good luck, thats a great move!
