Are you really a shark? If so , you would know these answers wouldn't you? Just curious as I noticed that the sharks (aka. mods) on here are very knowledgeable and you; not so much.
To answer the question though; proper water changes with quality salt is all you will need besides proper lighting that is.

Depends...what did you have in mind to put in it????
My 90 had everthing from gonipora to cup corals.....but now that it's a seahorse tank-I still use all the equipment that I did with the reef, except for the wave 2K.
I like to stock my tanks to accomidate all corals and fish. That way I don't have to buy extra.....
pardon my rambling....I guess it really comes down to what you plan to put in the tank. :happyfish

Must really decide if you will ever want sps or a clam or an anemone with clown. reason is that your light requiremants will be different for those animals. The lighting in this hobby will set you back as much if not more than the tanks themselves. Hate to spend money on a good fixture to have it not support what you may want to end up with. Just my opinion. Also will want more flow thru the tank than FOWLR. So might need more or more powerfull powerheads.

If you have choosen the reef tank path.
This is a pic of my 45 salt tank
The light unit is the outer orbit 2 MH 2 double actinic and lunar(will meet all lighting needs of high spectrum corals
eheim pro 11 canister
2 aquaclear powerfilters
The seahorse tank is my 90..... in which I used the wave2K;I sold the wave 2K, wish I hadn't.

Definately!!!!!! That was the one thing I did not skimp on. I bought the best combo I could find that covered all the bases for my tank needs.

Most things you may need to add later. for now your changing your sump to have a fuge too(from reading other posts). as for chemicals once your corals are using up certain things like cal, then you may want to start dripping kalk. I in my opinion chemicals or reactors and any other equipment may be added later.
I'd go with whats already stated, find what kind of corals you want. the purchase lighting for that. and then begin having fun stocking up your tank.

Ya, I am not trying to flame her if she is a shark, but then again i am thinking she is not as she is asking for help on that level.
I have found that the sharks (aka. mods.) are very helpful and knowledgeable and wondered how she could be/or pose as a shark and not know basic things?
:notsure:

Were you using any supplements such as b-ionics in your fowlr tank? Otherwise there is not much difference between the two, the reef is just less forgiving when it comes to water quality and levels once you have the your system set up for it.

No problem asking questions; thats what the forums are for. Just curious how you have or you have sh@rk under your name as you are obviously faking the funk so to speak.
But to answer the question; additives are not needed in a reef if:
1. you do the proper water changes with quality salt mix
2. do not add anything you do not/cannot test for
3. try not to have a large bio-load if you get reefing seriously as the water quality is very important.
