Like I stated earlier..I have seen every Aquarium maintenance company in the local yellow pages collecting out of the inlet. There customers pay BIG money for the maintenance on tanks..(LOTS of RICH SOBs in South Florida) and some are very large tanks. I am not a proffesional reef keeper, but these guys are down there sometimes twice a day. Do what you like, belive what you want to, You will hear ALL kinds of negatives about using naturaly collected sea water from a lot of people on this site...but do a little search on the web and see what others are saying.

Thanks ifirefight~! Its tough for me to understand that because I live in California where the water collected from any relative source would ruin my systems.
The problem I have encountered is that the only comparison used for choice was price. Granted this can be a HUGE factor but Im looking for short term and long term comparison factors. The more and more I have researched this topic and product it doesnt look promising. Natures Ocean is a respectable company but there is no documented facts of where and how their "Bio-water" is collected, fortified, and stored. Yes their company is located in Florida but where excatly does the water come from in/around the coast? How is the water actually "fortified"? And last how is it stored? Its hard to accept these statements made by the company when they dont post them on their website. Their U.S. PATENT #6,376,229 states that the packaging be sealed and i have found that both containers i purchased were not, and had not noticable form of air tight seal. I have also failed to find any unbiased information regarding their QX-23 registered trademark for trace element fortification...

Mr 125, you will be hard pressed to find specific info on the way that company handles its water. If you do some research, you will find reports of drastic levels in some samples of that water. Yes storing live water for an extended length of time can be detrimental to the quality of the water. The companys I have seen collecting use the water the same day or at least with in a day or 2. But just think about a company collecting water, then packaging it,then shipping it, then sitting on the shelf, then a person buying it and adding it to the tank....could possibly be a large amount of time between collecting and adding to tank. When I collect, I use the water within 30 minutes

Yeah, here is the BS they state...Im sure its some sort of additive to help keep the micro-organisums alive for the 1 YEAR shelf life they claim.

It is very important in the maintenance of a marine aquarium that the environment be replenished regularly. The best means of accomplishing this is to change 15 percent to 20 percent of the water once a month. The ideal replacement water is 100% natural ocean saltwater. Natural ocean saltwater contains all the essential elements and micronutrients required by fish, coral and invertebrates that inhabit your aquarium. In addition, natural ocean water contains LIVE bacteria necessary for the rapid removal of biologic wastes.
A critical process in establishing a new marine aquarium system is the culturing of enough bacteria to adequately break down waste products. Nitrification is the first step in this very important process. Nitrification is carried out by unrelated groups of heterotrophic and chemolithotrophic bacteria. The first group converts ammonia to nitrite, which is then converted to nitrate by the second group. The best-known catalysts of these reactions are Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter, respectively, although other groups have also been identified (Belser 1979, Bergey’s 1989). Taken together, these bacteria can be used to ameliorate damage to the aquarium environment by reducing the ammonia content, which is generated as biologic waste. Effective ammonia removal is extremely important as ammonia is toxic to aquatic life and it creates a large demand for oxygen (USEPA 1993).
Nature’s Ocean Live Nutri-Seawater™ contains live, naturally-occurring planktonic bacteria, which makes it the best product for monthly water changes. Nutri-Seawater™ can immediately remove biologic waste products that have built up in the aquarium environment, and because it contains live bacteria, it can rapidly reduce the generation of new waste products.
For New Aquarium Setups: To achieve Instant Cycling® use Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live® Aragonite Reef Sand or Substrate along with Nutri-SeaWater™ to provide the perfect start.
What keeps the bacteria alive in Nutri-Seawater™
Bacteria are remarkably adept at surviving feast and famine, and are capable of adjusting their needs to accommodate highly diverse environments. Scientific inquiry has discovered a number of the microbial characteristics that facilitate bacteria's agile adaptations to changing environments. We have investigated this phenomenon and invented new, patented methodology to preserve live bacteria in the marine environment – QX-23. As soon as it is added to your aquarium, Nutri-Seawater™ fortified with QX-23 keeps the planktonic bacteria alive, primed and ready to remove harmful metabolic end products and restore essential elements and micronutrients to optimum levels. Each gallon of Nature’s Ocean Live Nutri-Seawater™ contains more than 11 million live planktonic bacteria, and the following critical elements:
Filtration systems that combine the use of ozone and ultra-violet irradiation destroy all bacteria and helpful microorganisms leaving the water DEAD, and unable to cycle the wastes from your aquarium.
