Syphon not balancing need help

So for the last 2 days my tank overflow and return pump have not been in sync. It seems that teh return pump is pushing more water back to teh tank faster then teh return can take down. I have never really had this problem in the past before, but it has proven to be a huge headache. I have to continuously top off the sump which has made for a slight salility chance as well as the water in teh tank rising drastically. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice on how to fix this?Thanks!

usually this happens because the U-tube on the overflow is filling up with either algae or bubbles and its restricting its flow. Clean the U tube
You could go with a slightly smaller pump to fix the problem as well or put a valve on the return pipe to restrict the flow.
They don't need to match, the return just needs to be less than the overflow.
