What size tank do you have? 4 is plenty for a 55. For a 75 6 are better is you are going to have much in the way of hard corals.

i have a 6 bulb unit on my 55 gallon and to be honest if i was going to do it all again i would get the 4. the two bulbs on the end are basically over the very front and back of the tank so dont give much direct light.
I got the 6 unit in plans of upgrading to a 90 gallon in the near future.
a 8 unit's bulbs would not even be over the tank so they would be completly useless.

was just asking cause i don't know. i figured that the 4 bulb unit wouldn't be enough because i though that you don't count actinic lighting as actual countable (usefull) wattage which would mean you are only using 108 watts of lighting....unless you changed out the actinics. not trying to get slammed just trying to make sure the tek light i get will be sufficient for with no coral, clam limitations and i don't want to have to upgrade lighting anymore.

If you are going to have a lot of clams or SPS the Aquactinics TX5 T5 unit would be a good choice. Otherwise the 4 lamp Tek is fine, just keep high light critters up in the rocks
