i'd personally start off with some easier corals like softies, zoas and lps. if u hv success keeping these after a few months, then move on to sps and clams. why waste money?

Could not agree more :)

Your light can support one of the easier calms and some hardy SPS(small polp stony like acros and montis). If i were you, i'd start with some softies and then LPS(large polp stony like hammer torch acan) then (later) try a squamosa or derasea clam right on top, making sure to feed it regularly, (also try and get a bigger one) if the clam does well maybe try a little hardy SPS frag.

Now that that's settled, back to the OP's question.
If you used decent bulbs you should be fine, but the clam would have to be up high.
From what I understand, the Aquactinics reflectors will fit nicely in that fixture. Maybe they'd be worth a look.

So...can you buy the fixture and then insert the reflectors, therefor getting the benefits of a fixture over retrofits? I'm very interestd in this as I would rather have a fixture than retrofit the bulb into my hood.

Has anyone actually put the aquactinics reflectors in the Nova Extreme?- If so, how did it work?- I have heard people say that they think that you can, but I have never heard someone say that they have actually done it.- If someone has I would be interested to hear how it worked.
-I am thinking of trying it myself.- I just need to measure the hood and make sure that I think that I can actually get them in there.-

I thought I saw a post on it here where someone did it but had to put in less bulbs due to size or something. I will look around and see if I can find it. I do remember them saying with less bulbs it was still better than it was prior.

Even if you can only get the reflectors to fit under every other bulb, I'd say it's still an improvement.

I was wondering if it will only fit every other bulb, if it would be better to do that or to sell the lights I have and go with the Nova Extreme Pro. I am going to do some measuring tonight to see if they are going to fit and then make a decision.
I know that the aquactinics reflectors are better than the Nova Extreme Pro reflector, but if I can only go every other bulb is the reflector enough better to justify doing that rather than going wtih the Pro?
Don't know myself more just thinking out loud.
Like I said I am going to do some measuring tonight and I will post what I have found and maybe that will answer some questions. Hopefully it is possible to put the reflectors on all the bulbs in the fixture.

thats a good question if i add those reflectors will its be the same as the pro, but not as many reflectors??
I honestly think if yod did the refl and bought quality bulbs it would be but that I am not 100% sure about but it would seem to be ass good.

BUT how much do the reflectors and new bulbs cost? Would it be worth it?

Personally I would just buy a tek light 6 bulb. 380 for the light or so and then brand new the bulbs new anywhere from 18 to 24 bucks a piece. drop shipped to your door. It is upto you though but I am just not a huge current fan. I know you can make them good lights ( not that they are bad really just not what I consider top notch and i hear their customer support is awful) but making them good lights costs as much as just buying the good light now instead of upgrading later.
I have to be honest I love the look of the light and was going to buy it was in the store and had money out for the nova ep and I was allowed to take it apart and was disappointed said I would wait. I then did about two months of research on lighting and came to the realization it is not the one for me. It might be perfect for you though stock and all.
I am gong to go with the solar flare for my DT and tek for a second and third tank.

I think the interest in modding this light comes mostly from those who already have it. In my case I already have the light and don't have the money to drop on a whole new fixture so I am curious what I can do with the fixture that I have right now to make it better.
I may end up waiting to save some more money and get a better fixture, but if there is a way to make this one better why wouldn't I just do that? Just my $.02.

Agreed I was on the phone withh anninafish she has the nova 2 24's so it would be easy fgor her to buy the reflect cut it and do it and cheaper than a light. The only problem is how much will it help as with the 24's they are two bulb so you might just be able to run one in each one unless you can mod the ref enough to make it where you can put two in.

I have the nova extreme 8 bulb 432 watt system and have been keeping a sps tank for a year and half with no issues I have 3 clams growing very well and the sps have shown excellent growth.

Hey all.
I was simply looking up info on this reflector and ran into this, and there is some very informative information here. Anyways, i was curious to as if anyone could chime in as to if it would be worth picking up a nove extreme 8 bulb version if i was able to get it for 300 (bulbs 3months old)? Seems a bit steep to me. thanks.

Some people like them but show me a lfs with them and I will show you a tank with nothing but softies in it if you could even find a LFS with it.
Their is a reason LFS do not use them and that is because they will give you an effect but not the desired one.
I am sure it will work but why get something that will work half as good as something better for a few bucks more. Save an extra paycheck if money is a issue or buy the light and the bulbs later however you have to do it but IMO you will end up with another light soon after.
