did you have to have special wiring or anything for these? or did you just plug in the wall and turn it on. Are they strong enough to cause a power surge in my house?

well i have a T5 Nova Extreme and it has normal plugs that just go into the wall.

most fixtures are pretty basic and are pretty much plug and play.

You should not need any special outlets or electrical connections.

For my t-5's I just have a srge protector (normal power cord). But I also plugged them into a ground fault (it was instead of changing the electrical outlet).
I apologize if my terminology is incorrect (I'll try to double check when I get home).
I did this not out of necessity but out of concern that a power outage or lightning would blow my lights and other stuff. I had a neighbor that lost their computer because of a lightning strike.
