Tahitian moon sand

I am considering getting some of this when I convert my freshwater 55 to a salt water. I am curious as to whether or not it will become live sand, if I have lr. When I'm looking for sand does it matter if it's silica or argonite base. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is Tahitian moon black? I have used the same stuff on one of my old tanks. I seeded it with no problems so I guess the answer to your question is yes.

Although I personally like using aragonite based sands/substrates, I saw a small acrylic nano reef tank at one of the better lfs here in town, that had a black back wall and this black sand.
My oh my what a pretty tank.
The live rock and corals placed against the black sand and background, along with his choice of lighting really accentuated their colors.
Was very nice looking.

I use the sand in my tank. The only thing other than how nice looking it is that i can say is to clean clean clean it before you put it in your tank. It thought i had it cleand all the way set up my tank and it just stayed cloudy too long so i redrained and through the process again. Went with 60 lbs originally now waiting for shipment of 60 more lbs to make my sand bed deeper. Is really a great looking sand and wouldnt go wtih any other. Makes my CBS look real great and blue starfish.....whoa...

I would like to use this sand for a DSB as well after reading the previous post on the look of the black sand with the blue starfish :D
Just wondering:
1. A few posts from the archives mentioned that dirt shows up quite quickly on the surface. Anyone else have similar experience/comments?
2. If I'm also going to buy some live sand, what is the best way to lay them down?
Thanks! :)
