If you have not seen this HBO production, I highly encourage you to do so, regardless of your opinion on the war.
And you should have your teenagers watch it too...
It is basically the true story of a Marine Lt. Colonel who escorts the remains of a 19yo Marine home to his family after he was killed in Iraq.
Truth be told, I didn't want to see it. I didn't want a hollywood bashing flick.
But it is far from that. I highly suggest it.

As a former sailor (USN 84'-90') I have had several friends go missing at see and in port. The movie I believe was one of the finest done and for those who are for or against the war, I have to say, remember it is not who sent them into harms way, but those who have went knowing what might happen. They deserve the respect.
For all that are there and there families, my prayers and thanks go to you.

The thanks really should go out to the people that make it possible to bring ALL of our soldiers home. That is so important to many families. Getting that kind of news is dreaded but bringing them home is a great comfort and closure to a horrible chapter. I hope and pray that no one has to go through that. I certainly don't want to but I know that if something happened to Ted I'd want someone to bring him home.

I truly believe it should be mandatory even in schools. It doesn't really take any stance on the war at all. It is truly a remarkable film.
I pray that now, even a few years later, that the same respect is shown. I am almost haunted by the "I'll watch over him" sense of duty and respect.
There were things I knew must happen, and yet it was astonishing to really have it presented in that way. The compassion and care was just inspirational, really.
