I love how people like to hound on others about fish and their sizes and completely change the subject......this is the exact same thing that happened on another board to other people and it gets way out of hand.
I dont want any comments on the Tang im here to help others wit this issue.
This is an algea that KILLS coral and takes over your rock. Its a hitch hiker that is not like any other algae. There are only 2 animals that will eat it the urchin which have had bad results and the Tang which EVERYONE says eats it and does just fine. People have put these tangs in smaller tanks to get rid of it then sell the fish with no issues.
This point of this is I have this in my tank...I know how scarry and annoying it is...this thread is to help anyone that might have this little demon in their tank and 1 good way to get rid of it. Yes this fish is a larger species and delicate as you say. My copperband was supposed to be a 'delicate' species but that had to be the easiest fish I ever had....
Everyone takes risks in their own hands but this is a risk that works and I am looking forward to taking care of it

I just now noticed this:
I didn't attack you..I want to be considered your buddy..I was just asking a question, others jumped on it. I had a tiny little tang in my 55g, he is still around today in my 90g. I asked because I really wasn't sure of your tank size and wanted t know what your plans were. I go through all this just to say sorry if I offended you, it wasn't my intent at all.
I was not jumping on you over your tang, if I thought you had made a bad choice I would have mentioned returning it or stopping the shipment. Lots of folks including me buy baby tangs and upgrade or find new homes later. The Tang police I am not.

no no no Flower your also another one of my 'buddies' I just dont know BLDTReef or whoever she is and found it rude that she jumped on me and didnt even introduce herself or anything.

When I find my hippo a home I will be trying to find it a home with my atlantic tang because they are two peas in a pod. They swim EVERYWHERE together its hilarious. I would hate to split them apart.

If you purchase a baby tang, it is also good to put it in a smaller tank to allow for a "grow in" period. Small tangs can get very stressed in a large tank with dominant tank mates.

oh yes he is going to go in a 55 gallon long for a few weeks. There are no fish in that tank so he will feel comfy. :)

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to offend you or anyone else, and yes, I'm extremely frustrated right now.
I would definitely say that I'm part of the tang police, LOL, sorry. I just feel that tangs, if small should be housed in small tanks without other fish that it will have to compete with. I am very much of the mind set that buying a fish for the purpose of handling nuisance algae usually doesn't work. In the end, people end up with the algae still being there, a fish that needs a new home and frustration.
