I guess I need to follow this a little more :(
This refers to one of my FW tanks.....the other day a hobbyist asked a question about a treatment for a fungus....I said to use the fungas tabs you can get at Walmart....they have always worked for me
WELL....yesterday I noticed a white spot on my bala shark's eye.....This shark is 7" and I have probably had it 8-10 years
well I always keep mela-fix, pima-fix, stress coat and the fungas tabs for my FW tanks...so what do I do
I treat the tank with Mela fix
ONLY because it said it was more for the cloudy eye issue then the tabs....well today the fish not only has a cloudy eye....it has pop-eye....and is on death's door......swimming upside down and all of a sudden it's scales are looking sick
SO...I just did a 50% w/c.....and put carbon in to remove the meds.....I am thinking it is too late for the bala though
all other fish are fine......MAYBE.....just MAYBE.....it's an age thing too.....just how long do these fish live...anyone know?
NOW I am not sure if I should remove the bala, and put it out of its misery....or wait it out

Sorry to hear that.If I would have to guess, I would guess that it was just due to old age.

Bummer....I'm sorry to hear about your fish. I don't know how long they live, google search says 8 to 10 years. All fish we buy in the pet stores are baby fish as a rule. My bala sharks all looked longer than your picture..and more like a catfish.....

Fishbase has them listed at 35cm max. So figure around 11" for the average mature adult fish, and then 8" in captivity sounds about right (esp, for FW fish). They're in the carp family, so maybe 8 years sounds a little short... Hard to say.

Wow, that's a big fish.
It's inevitable part of life that we wish to escape... looks like that fish had a long, good life with you and it's probably the old age that's causing his illness.
You have already done what you can. (good water quality, medicate [I think you did good although you don't think so] and etc.)
Let's hope that he pulls through.
