Ha, that reminds me of a time a guy washed close to 200lbs of liverock in bleachwater because "it looked dirty"
anyway yes, i may again have to feel the pain of educating the general public in the way of the salt water, as this college thing is getting in the way of my first shift job so i've got to get a sceond shift job....and the only place that will hire right now is the LFS that i used to work in...so yeah going back to 5.15 an our is not looking too attractive to me right now...but thats the end of my rant

Rye,
I had a lady come into my store, say I dont have one fo those crappy fresh water tanks, I have salt water tank. She asked me what can go into ther tank and i asked what she had. She says, 2 dalmation fish and a betta. Im like hrm, i think u have a fresh water tank with mollies and a betta. She got all mad and is like "I KNOW WHAT KIND OF FISH I HAVE THANK YOU!! NOW GIVE ME TWO OF THESE BLUE ONES WITH YELLOW TAILS!!" (damsels not hippo tangs) She goes on to say that they sold her this expensive "marine betta" for 6.99 cuz it had a longer tail, and im like yea this is def not a marine betta. She started causing a scene when i questioned her on her type of tank so i just dipped out 2 damsels and gave up.
Unfortunately it doesnt end there. She looks at our tomato clown and asked why we removed nemos stripe, and complained that no fish should cost that much. I made sure to write no guarentee on her receipt and went about my business. The next day she came in and one of the damsels was already dead. Apparently the mollies attacked it....I told her the stuff wasnt guarenteed and she got mad and left. I hate it when people obvious know everything

Yep , jacks aquarium and pets...not the best place to work, i would much rather work in a store that is more geared toward salt water and not pets in general..but beggers can't be choosers

It goes both ways too. LFS employees don't like being told how to do their job. My wife pointed out a coral beauty that was infected with ich and rotting fins. She told the girl that the coral beauty needed to be put in qt. Response: "Everything is under control" 2 days later fish is of course dead and gone.
I suppose everything else is under control with not less than 50 dead goldfish in a 55 gallon tank.

mightyoxjuice- I'm not saying that that you were wrong and that no action should be taken.... but sometimes it gets annoying when customers try to tell employees something they already know or try to convince them of something thats not true. If I had a nickel for every time I heard that we had a dead or sick blue tang when he was laying on his side, or that our eel was stuck under a rock, then I would be a millionaire. One guy even argued with me for 20 minutes telling me that we had a trigger that was stuck in a rock and couldnt get out... I told him why they were called triggers and that it was perfectly normal but he didnt believe me... I eventually put a piece of food in and it came right out.

Funny story Rye and others....
I can really appreciate and respect patient and knowledgable LFS employees... I can only imagine what it's like to have to bite your tongue all the time when the know-it-alls walk in..

I so feel you pain. Worked at an LFS for a year. I was laughing so loud reading this that my husband who could care less about fish had to ask what was so funny. Wait until you find the box of baby guinea pigs dropped off at the door one morning. And of course they will be from the people who just had to get a male and female, even though they didn't want guinea pig babies.

You guiys think working WITH the public is bad, trying working FOR the public, oh wait, that's you guys............nevermind.

I understand completely, it is hard to tell someone that they have to start completely over by buying the right equipment and taking time, all while trying not to make the customer sound like an idiot and having them end up leaving, furious.
