tamatoe clown bullying percula

sigh..another problem, my newly introduced tomatoe clown is bullying my percula bad. I then tried to net out this tomatoe but it's more intelligent than i thought, it just hides inside the live rocks. then only way for me to stop it from chasing the poor percula is to increase a lot of air into the tank, then tomatoe will just stay inside the rocks not coming out, while percula freely swim around, i also found percula likes to swim against water current more. i just hope this fight will be over soon, and i think they fight because they are the same size.

My tomato clown bullied my poor percula on and off for several months. Every time that I thought that it was getting better, he would go after him again until the very sad day when I came home to find poor percula on his last gills. I hope that yo have better luck.

I had the same problem with my Tomato after he grow bigger then the other clowns. After having him for about 3 years I took him back to the LFS for credit.

Why do you put two types of Clowns in one tank.I have 7 perculas that get along fine but I will not add another type of clown.Need to pick one or the other.

Before my clown died or disappeared which ever you prefer, I couldn't put anything in the tank without him grabbing a hold of it. He tortured my horseshoe crab carrying him around the tank and spitting him out. He just wasn't friendly I don't know if that is a characteristic but I don't think I would get another one.

thanks guys. i pulled most lr out and after 1 hour of struggling I got out the tomatoe clown and put it in my q tank. In my q tank this same clown is bullying other damsels. i guess this type of clown is very aggressive, thanks for the advise.

any clowns will be agressive to any other type of damsels. Clowns are damsels and can be just as agressive sometimes. Maybe take the new fish back and get a smaller one of the same species and see if they pair-up

I bought my tomato clown about 7 months ago and he gets along fine with any newly introduced species I toss in. I put in a very small clown trigger, and a yellow tail blue tang just today and all went well due to the size difference. I wanted an agressive tank because the radiant colors worked well together so I did some homework and figured out that the tomato will stay somewhat calm as long as the others are smaller. He does protect his territory though so I went back and got him an annenome to call his own.

you should decide on what type of clown you want and go with that type.... Tomato clowns are quit aggessive..... and depending onthe size of your tank will bully alot of the fish around..... you woud need to put in a domino damsial, or get a sailfin tang and as they get bigger they will bully each other leaving the smaller guys alone..... so I would get an angel(flame)or (exaviour) then the sailfin tang and then a few blue damsels..... you will then have quite the active tank... also be sure to have a good clean up crew wit at least 4 cleaner shrimp to get the parisites (ich,being #1) to clean up the tank the "natural" way...... good luck!!!!!
